What are your hours of operation?
We are open
Monday to Friday, 10:30 AM - 6:30 PM.
Perfect for lunch breaks, early dinner or a quick sushi fix between meetings
Do I need a reservation?
No reservations needed, walk right in! We’re a grab-and-go spot that keeps things easy.
How does the ordering process work?
Simple as sushi.
Grab a box & tong, pick your favorites, weigh & pay. Enjoy!
Do you have vegetarian options?
Yes! We’ve got veggie-friendly rolls, inari, and appetizers - all clearly labeled.
Are there cooked sushi options?
Yes! We have plenty of cooked options.
Can i order sushi for events or catering?
Of course, sushi makes every event better! You can order through EZCater or email us directly at hello@grainandsea.com to ship 3rd party fees.
How often do you replace the sushi?
We follow the Chicago Health Department rules:

Raw sushi: every 2 hours

Cooked sushi: every 4 hours
In reality? Our sushi rarely lasts over 30 minutes during rush hour. Freshness is our default setting.
What's "yam" and why is it in your sushi?
It’s Japanese sweet potato - creamy, naturally sweet, and full of color.
A little surprise bite that keeps things interesting.
Do you charge for condiments or sauces
Nope ! They’re complimentary at the condiment station.

We’re just one block south of the iconic Merchandise Mart, right in the heart of downtown Chicago.
You’ll find us between Lake St and Randolph St, surrounded by office towers, coffee, and good vibes.
Just follow the scent of fresh sushi rice - you’ll know when you’re close
Is there parking nearby?
Yes! There’s paid street parking and a parking garage right next door.

How is sushi priced?
All sushi is $1.25 per oz. You pay by weight, not by set - so mix and match however you like!

Do you have gluten-free options?
Absolutely! All gluten-free items are clearly labeled.

How far in advance should I place a catering order?
At least 2 days in advance (the earlier the better - we like to prep with care).
Why isn't the sushi refrigerated?
Because cold rice = sad sushi Refrigeration ruins the texture and flavor. We keep everything fresh and rotate frequently - so you get sushi the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.
Are there seatings?
Yes! We’ve got plenty of indoor seating if you’d like to stay and chill.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We take cash and credit cards.
No seashells or IOUs (yet).
